The Nowy Styl Group Running Team runners have won the Ultramaraton Magurski team champion title for the third time in a row. This is yet another great achievement for our athletes this year. However, the result alone is not all, because participation in the competition was primarily an opportunity to consolidate the team.
Held in the heart of the Lower Beskid mountains, Ultramaraton Magurski gets more and more popular and recognized among runners every year. Athletes from all over Poland, and ever more often from abroad as well, are attracted to Krempna because of the combination of a demanding route and the beautiful scenery of the Magura national park where the competitions are held. The Nowy Styl Group Running Team is one of the regulars at the event. In this year's edition (17 Aug.) as many as 31 of our friends took part.
MaguRun (22 km) was a distance that proved to be the most popular with our team. As many as 19 competitors set out on the route. And 12 people tried their hand at the 65 km race.
“Each of us began the competition with our own goals in mind, but the awareness that individual results count toward the team classification gave us additional motivation,” notes Mateusz Bieszczad who took 7 hours to complete the longer route. This gave him an excellent 8th place in the race.
Apart from Mateusz Bieszczad, 8 more runners scored points toward the team classification: Łukasz Medejczyk, Jacek Piskadło, Arkadiusz Michalski, Paweł Parylak, Mirosław Kucharski, Sławomir Zajdel, Marcin Niżnik and Dariusz Błażejowski. That was enough for our company team to defend the championship title. It is worth noting that the team was second to none in 2017 and has remained undefeated for three years.
“This year we had a much more difficult task than in the previous edition of the race,” admits Marcin Niżnik, one of team founders and leaders. “As usual, the leading Polish mountain runners checked in at Krempna, while our team lacked a few strong seasoned colleagues. But only 40 of the fastest competitors at each distance get points toward the classification, so it was expected that we might fail at defending our gold. However, we showed sporting strength, in particular our fighting spirit.”
For Dorota Różycka and Przemysław Saj, team success is obviously a huge reason to be happy, but they agree that Ultramaraton Magurski is above all an opportunity to meet other runners, both on and off the trail:
“Our team consists of several dozen people. We race a lot during the year, but usually in groups of several people. This competition is special because we always come here in large numbers, which gives us the opportunity to meet our colleagues from other offices and units. So the sporting result is important, but even more important is that we can spend some time together and make friends.”
The team victory in Ultramaraton Magurski is another great achievement for the team this year. In early April, our runners entered a few relay races during the Vienna Marathon, one of the largest of its kind in the world. The best of them finished 10th.
