“A world without diversity would be dull,” says Thomas Argauer, the winner of a photo competition entitled The Power of Diversity. This year, dozens of photos taken in many different corners of the world competed for prizes.
The photo contest for employees of the Nowy Styl Group has been held for three years, each time with a different theme. This year, diversity was the central theme. The organizers gave contestants a free hand in interpreting diversity, hoping that their photo ideas would prove how powerful the phenomenon is. They were not disappointed. Dozens of photographs submitted for the contest included shots taken in the farthest corners of the globe, with a real mosaic of contents: from people and animals to landscapes and architecture. A panel of judges composed of the Group’s employees, including the winners of last year's edition of the competition, decided to award the first prize to Thomas Augauer who works as design engineer at the German branch of the Group.
The best photograph was taken in front of a Buddhist temple (called stupa) in Bodnath, Tibet. Thomas captured colourful prayer flags against the background of two towers of the structure and the sky. “The photo was taken during my honeymoon. I take my camera on every journey to capture moments to enjoy later on” he said. The author of the photo thinks that thanks to diversity the world is more interesting and our life would be dull without it.
The winners of the second and third awards in the competition are of similar opinion: Michał Gumienny (Technologist) and Martyna Piórek (Customer Service Department) both work at Jasło. Michał's photograph is surprising in how it shows a contrast between graffiti art, usually associated with urban space, and a mountain landscape. It was taken during a spring trek to the peak of Turbacz. Martyna's photo, on the other hand, shows a collection of sea shells of various shapes and colours collected during her holiday trips. “Every form of diversity makes our world amazingly colourful, beautiful and interesting” says the photographer.
Several honourable mentions were also awarded in the competition. All photos appreciated by the jury will be published in a printed corporate calendar.
